Swimming Closed at Litchfield

The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the NT advises that Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and the Upper Cascades in Litchfield National Park are closed for swimming.

Park ranger, Sean Webster, said the swimming holes have been closed to the public due to dangerous conditions.
“We have closed the Upper Cascades, Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole to swimming as conditions have become unsafe due to the heavy rainfall over the last couple of days,” Mr Webster said.

“Over 150mm fell in the Park yesterday between 9am and 3pm with further rain over night.

“The three designated swimming areas are currently flooded, which is causing strong currents, water clarity issues and unsafe conditions for swimming.

“Aida Creek is also experiencing flooding and may cause accessibility issues to visitors, please check flood markers before attempting to cross.

“We are urging the public to reschedule their plans to visit Litchfield National Park until the rain subsides and conditions become safe again.

“Anyone planning on visiting Litchfield National Park should check our Parks access page at www.parksandwildlife.nt.gov.au .”
Litchfield National Park is located about 100kms south of Darwin and is popular with locals and tourists alike for its pristine swimming holes, camping facilities and walking tracks.
