Title: Another proposed dam for the Bowen Basin Area.....
Post by: RandallG on October 14, 2010, 10:21:15 AM
Looks like this one will fly.

The proposed dam is located on the Connors River, near Mount Bridget, approximately 110 kilometres due east of Moranbah and 70km south of Sarina.

Several storage capacities were investigated through the Environmental Impact Statement development process, with an ultimate storage size of 373,662 ML being proposed for approval.

Refer to Sunwater site for the full story.

Been fishing the Connors River since I could walk. This river has been one of the last sections of the mighty Fitzroy River System to remain unregulated. It's been on the miners radar for some years. Damming this beautiful river will be a double edged sword. Firstly the river will be altered forever, and secondly, the water storage will allow for greater irrigation & mining downstream, causing more land clearing, vegetation loss, water pollution etc. Just like the Mary River, there is a rare & unique bum breathing tortoise in the Connor's River. Will they have to build a turtle hatchery here? Not likely I fear. There's no alternative lifestyle folks on the broadsound, they get hunted out pretty quick up that way.  :walkplank

I've heard nairy a peep from lobby / represenative / peak bodies thus far on the Connors River Dam.  ???  :-\

At least they wont need to stock Saratoga there after it's built.

fitzy..

Dont need one, got a good breading population of bum breathers in George st, new crop every three years.......

Near lost my hand working a drill rig for a bridge over the Connors river many years ago, beautiful place, was some nice fishing while working there (before the hand incident). Got my first toga there I think (to long ago)
