MEDIA RELEASE 17th March 2012
MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES COMMIT NOTHING TO FRESHWATER FISHERS .

The Queensland State Government election is to be held on the 24th March 2012. The election is a prime opportunity for political parties of all persuasions to publicly put their cards on the table, and to commit to enhancing freshwater fishing across Queensland, Robin Caddy, President of the Freshwater Fishing & Stocking Association of Queensland (FFSAQ) said today.

The Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Association of Queensland Inc. is the peak organization representing freshwater fishers of Queensland.
FFSAQ is the community and political voice for stocking groups and is empowered to liaise with Government on their behalf.
Unfortunately, as of today, neither of the major political parties has provided any commitment to elevate the future of freshwater fishers in Queensland.
Mr Caddy stated that the Liberal National Party has responded, but in a manner that is meaningless, and made no commitments at all to enhance freshwater fishing in Queensland.
The LNP elected not to complete the questionnaire attached to FFSAQ’s “Freshwater Recreational Fishing Position Statement”.
It has been in their possession for over six months.
Both the Australian Labor Party and Bob Katter’s Australian Party have not responded to FFSAQ’s Position Statement.
The Queensland Greens have responded in a meaningful manner.

The lack of commitment by the major political parties is most disappointing and indicates in a significant way that they are just not interested in augmenting better opportunities for freshwater fishers, Mr Caddy said. There is always plenty of spin and rhetoric, but when it comes to commitment, there is a total lack thereof.
The major political parties have had an opportunity to commit to an enhanced freshwater fishery in Queensland, but have declined to support this extremely popular community activity.

"The Queensland Greens have responded in a meaningful manner"
Wonder why this has not been posted anywhere ?
For a "political party" which most of us consider anti fishing and anti access their answers to the questions in the FFSAQ questionaire were quite surprising.
