Improved recreational facilities at Scenic Rim lakes
Seqwater - 5 August 2014

Paddle craft enthusiasts will benefit from a new launch point established at Lake Maroon.

The launch point is an outcome of Seqwater’s Recreation Review, the most significant consultation ever taken on the future of recreation in and around South East Queensland lakes.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said the new launch point, in the day use area at Lake Maroon, would provide an additional entry location for paddle craft users.

“This will assist in easing congestion at the main boat ramp by providing a separate paddle craft launch point. This will be especially important during busy times at the lake. Visitor safety is our priority,” Mr Dennis said.

“The new sandy launch point will provide an easily accessible and convenient entry for canoeists and kayakers.”

Mr Dennis said locals and visitors to the Scenic Rim would also enjoy improved picnic facilities at Lake Moogerah, another outcome of community feedback to the Recreation Review

“We have recently completed works in Haigh Park at Lake Moogerah, including new gardens and landscaping,” he said.

“In addition, we constructed a gazebo-like structure which can be used for wedding ceremonies and other events.

“This structure, which maximises the beautiful backdrop of the lake, will be well used as the park is a very popular spot for celebrations.”

As a result of feedback from the Recreation Review, from May, dogs were permitted in the day use area of Lake Maroon and Haigh Park at Lake Moogerah.

“These positive outcomes from the review will only serve to increase tourism to the Scenic Rim as more people discover the beauty of Lakes Maroon and Moogerah,” Mr Dennis said.
