Baw Baw to showcase fly fishing this weekend

A man holding a fishing rod and fishing in the riverRecreational fishers can learn more about fly fishing at the inaugural ‘Fly Fish Baw Baw’.

Victoria boasts terrific fly fishing opportunities in rivers and lakes, particularly for brown and rainbow trout.

This event is a partnership between the Department of Primary Industries, VRFish and the Mt Baw Baw Resort and aims to encourage fly fishing to both new and experienced freshwater fishers.

The weekend kicks off on the evening of Friday 23 November with an information session from local fly fishing experts who will advise visitors about the best trout waters in the area and the best flies to use.

Free maps will be available to guide visitors to access points, including some through private property that’s been specifically granted for the weekend.

On Saturday visitors can explore the region’s waters with their fly rod and enjoy the magnificent scenery.

Amongst the waters on offer are the Tanjil and Toorongo rivers and Blue Rock Lake.

An award winning fly fishing movie from the Rise Film Festival will be shown on Saturday evening for those with any energy left after a big day outdoors.

A trade fair at the Mt Baw Baw Resort on Sunday will showcase everything to do with fly fishing. Fishers can meet fly fishing guides, see the latest gear from leading fly fishing wholesalers, watch fly tying demonstrations, enjoy family activities for non-fishers or practice their casting skills with experts.

Special accommodation prices are being offered through the Mt Baw Baw Resort so fishers can make a full weekend of the event.
