Might do if I knew where it was. Searched the maps. Does anyone know where my car keys are :-\
John.

Its in the sweetwater google maps for "Wivenhoe"

Look down towards front of lake in the no boating zone, red triangle marker.

Oh dopey me! Now you point it out I remember that place from many years ago. Just didn't tie the name to the location.
Cheers John.

Instead of turning left into Logan's Inlet, you go straight ahead to the end of the road.  It's the point just out from the wall.

Thanks Dale an Fitz I do remember fishing there about ... It'd have to be 20 years ago judging from how old the kids were at the time.  Dunno if we were sposed to fish there. Just past the rowing thingy. No kayaks then just baitdanglin' Had just lost the name of the place.
Cheers John.

It was a popular, and legal, night fishing spot for Jewies back then.

Any ideas on what that would make the paddle to Playtypus Cliffs? Given that if I paddled any slower my wake would overtake me. Or just give me a typical time and I can double it. :thanks

Pictures from Lindemans Road at Lowood.

Single lane dozed track down to river
Can turn around at bottom using about a 5 point turn.
Can get very close to water, over a couple of logs to water. Not too dificult.
Could get down in 2x4 vehicle if it hasn't rained.

It is off Lindemanns Road behind the small industrial estate at Lowood. Look for the concrete /power radio pole in industrial estate, track is opposite it.

This hole goes from Lowood Bend upto the Log Jam adjascent to Harpeng Road.

Pictures from Shines Road, Wivenhoe Pocket

Go to end of Shines Road, look for track on right at end of road, follow to gate.
Steep track down to river, approx 60m - 80m from gate to river depending on where you launch from (left at bottow or right)

Close gate behind you.

Approx 100m upstream to Lockyer Creek Junction. A couple of kilometers down to Harpeng Road & the Log Jam behind island.

WARNING. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PADDLE DOWNSTREAM WHERE RIVER DIVIDES AT ISLAND. PORTAGE AROUND VIA LEFT OF ISLAND. The log jam on the western side of island is now quite substantial since the flooding in January 2011. You cannot paddle through the log jam (even if you drink Solo)!!! You will get stuck or injured or worse!!
Where the left arm (going downstream) finishes adjascent to Harpeng Road, you will need to portage from end of hole along old river bed washout to bottom side of log jam, approx 50 - 60m.

Lowood Bend

Lowood Bend

You can drive any type of car down the dirt track to end up quite close to the river here.

There are three (3) sets of rocks here, you can launch just below the first set of rocks and easily portage around it on right hand side, or if you're a good paddler you might just paddle straight up. Or drive along track another 50m to launch below the bottom rocks.

Lowood Bend in a popular starting point for downstream trips to either Twin Bridges (approx 5-6km) or further on to Savages Crossing (approx 8 or 9km).

Bass are often found in and around these rocks and snags immediately below the fast water.

All pics below wer taken from where you can get a car to with ease.

Road #5175
« Reply #58 on: September 03, 2011, 09:39:12 PM »
Road Reserve #5175

Road reserve #5175 goes from Forrest Hill - Fernvale Road right down & across river to Vernor Road (road reserve) in Wivenhoe Pocket.

Look for yellow & black striped post at gate marking the road reserve.

Close gate behind you & don't disturb any cattle that may be in paddock.

This access point is not commonly used as few know of it's existance. Another reason is that it is only about 1km from the popular
Lowood Bend access point. This is another location that if not used, may be lost as a public access point for exactly that reason.

Road Reserve #5178

Road Reserve #5178

Look for gate on bend of road. Always close gate behind you as cattle are often grazed here.
Very rarely used as very few know this is a road reserve.
