Title: Lake Maroon Bass - Size

Hi All

I’m wondering why Maroon Bass seem smaller on average than other impoundments in the area such as Somerset? Is this related to the type of bait present (lack of a particular bait species ie Garfish)

That's the only reason I can think of too. I don't think there are Bony Bream in there, as there are in Moogerah nearby. The bass in Maroon behave differently too. They will take surface lures there but not in Moogerah. (Possibly because of the baitfish situation).
The small bass size in Maroon has been like that as long as I can remember......You would  still think there is enough food in there for them to get a decent size. The yellas get big in there.

The surface bite is interesting too. They must rely a lot more on insects to supplement for the lack of bait fish.

The big yellas must be good at digging around for all the Shrimp in the dam.  The big cod must be hitting the bass. Have heard a few stories of hooked up bass getting hit by Cod.
