Call for community to help find new leads on Georges River fish kill

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is calling on the community to help in the investigation of the fish kill in the Georges River at Moorebank near Liverpool earlier this month.

White foam was again reported to be present in stormwater flowing into the river, between Liverpool Weir and the Casula, on Saturday, February 21.

It should be noted that this is not a new incident but rather the remains of the substance that was initially detected in the River at the time of the fish kill on February 14.   No new reports of fish kills have been received.

The EPA is continuing to work closely with Liverpool Council in its investigation into the source of the fish kill but the community can play an important role in helping to find new leads

Anyone with information that could be useful to the investigation is strongly encouraged to contact the EPA’s 24hour Environment Line on 131 555. Confidential reports can also be made.

Test results last week confirmed  that the while the water in the drain where the white foam flowed to, and where it enters the River was highly toxic to aquatic life, the water samples from the Georges River have not tested as toxic.

The clean-up of dead fish was completed last week with four tonnes removed from the river and disposed at an appropriate landfill facility.Sorry, only registered users can see this content. Please Login or Register.
