Hinze Dam spillway query
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:34:13 AM »
With all the rain at present have been checking the BoM River readings for Hinze Dam and Nerang River

http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDQ60285.html

But the dam spillway height readings are a puzzle.

Does anyone know are they measured below a new spillway on the stage 3 wall raising, or measured from the old spillway pre the height increase.

Curious whether water is now backing up for the newer dam level, or just going over the wall and down river.

Of interest this morning the spillway was 2.76m below, while a few days ago it rose to 1.72m below.

cheers RICHO

Good question!
I doubt they are ready to close her up to the new height yet. But I could be wrong!

Definatly old spillway heights. I am fairly certain that they are releasing water through the cone valves to enable work to progress on new dam as the level seems to be stable no matter how much rain they get.
 Cheers
