About Dale (Aussiebasser) Sinclair - written by Garry Fitzgerald

Dale (aussiebasser) Sinclair was practically born with a fishing rod in his hand. Growing up in North Eastern Victoria in the 1960's Dale cut his fishing teeth on Redfin and Trout in Lake Hume, and Murray Cod in the Ovens and Murray rivers. Chasing Trout in small streams of The Great Divide, Dale learnt to Fly Fish at a very early age.

Annual trips to Lake Eucumbene with his father and brothers were a highlight of his early years. Later, with his father acquiring a taste for saltwater sportsfishing, annual trips were made to Eden, Bermagui and Narooma, specifically chasing the legendary Yellowfin Tuna and Yellowtail Kingfish.

A move to Queensland in 1985 saw Dale going back to his freshwater roots, and getting involved in the fledgling Bass fishery in South East Queensland. Fly fishing for Bass, with improvised trout tackle before it was commonly accepted as a typical Bass technique saw some outstanding sessions at Lake Cressbrook and Maroon Dam.

Dale is now actively involved in the Somerset and Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association.

Dale fishes from either an 18'6" Stratos 285 ProXL American Bass Boat fitted with a supercharged 150hp Mercury, or if he's in the rivers or electric only dams he uses his 12' Quintrex with 15hp Mercury and Minn Kota electrics. Dale's favourite targets are Australian Bass, Saratoga and Barramundi.

He uses either trolling or cast and retrieve techniques with hard body and soft body lures and fly. Living only a good cast away from the upper reaches of the Brisbane river gives Dale ample opportunity to throw his canoe in the river and chase some of his local Bass.
