Over $10 000 in prizes

With the ever increasing popularity of sweet water fishing in the recent years there are more and more folks that are getting into chasing everything from bass to barra on our stocked lakes. At the same pace the popularity of kayaking and canoeing has seen many folks get onto the water to either just enjoy the outdoors or to chase a fish. This in mind, it was only a matter of time before someone put two and two together to make an event just for the kayak anglers on one of our sweet water lakes. Well now someone has and they chosen one of the best bass lakes going to hold it. Lake Wivenhoe is home to some of the biggest bass in Queensland, breaking previous BASS Electric records for biggest ever caught.

Fishing
The concept is a Catch > Measure > Photograph > Release with prizes being awarded for total length.
This will see anglers not needing to bring their catch back alive to a weigh-in station, simply catch your fish, take a photo of your fish on a fish measuring mat (with your entry card in the photo) and release the fish. Digital photo must clearly show the whole fish and competitors card.

The convention is very non-restrictive and is open to anyone with a canoe or kayak who wishes to nominate and agree to abide by the rules.
This includes peddle, paddle, electric motor or sail power assisted canoes or kayaks (catamaran’s & sailing boats not permitted).
Fishing styles permitted are cast and retrieve or trolling of lure / fly with up to two rods permitted to be used at a time to allow for trolling.

When
The timing could not be better.
Lake Wivenhoe fishes at its best from April through to October.
Being held in September the Wivenhoe Kayak & Canoe Fishing Convention is sure to see the fishing at its best.
The timing also coincides with the end of the ABT tournament season.

An event like this will be must attend for many kayakers, as much for the get together and the location as much as anything else.
However there are some great prizes on offer. At only $50 entry this is a very affordable event.

Access
As many regular Lake Wivenhoe anglers would know, the fish can be spread out in the lake and many have a favourite spot.
To assist in accessing the various areas of the lake, competitors may drive to other access points around Lake Wivenhoe and launch from there. Competitors who are also members of clubs that have thier own land leases may also launch from these locations.
NEW With the floods of early 2011, some fish moved both upstream and downstream of the lake to the river, so in 2011 competitors weill be permitted to fish anywhere in the Brisbane River above or below lake Wivenhoe from Scrubb Creek Rd Bridge near Toogoolawah (upstream)to Burton's Bridge on Somerville's Rd (downstream). So long as they are at the Logan Complex at the start end end of each session for head count, this is acceptable.

Measuring & Points

Measurements
Measurements will be in whole centimetres (cm). Bass & Yellowbelly are the only species that are are awarded points. Fish must be photographed with a digital camera withe the fish laying on a commercially available fish measuring mat or commercially made fish measuring ruler. The entrant who caught the fish must have thier competitors card in the picture clearly showing their number. The onus is on each individual to supply a digital camera that is able to take a picture to satisfy the above requirements. Each angler shall record all fish caught including species and estimated length (if not a bass or yellowbelly) on a supplied catch card for fish stocking / SEQWater / DPI&F records. Each entrant shall lodge their catch card & memory card from digital camera at the end of each day so the results can be confirmed/verified and points tallied.

Point System
1 point will be awarded for each whole cm of the entrants longes bass and entrants longest yellowbelly for each day of the event. Only the longest Bass and Yellowbelly will be scored for each entrant per day.
Example: On Day 1 John Citizen catches 4 bass (42cm, 45 cm, 51cm & 33cm) and 2 yellowbelly (46cm & 55cm). John's biggest bass Day 1 is 51cm therefore this fish gives him 51 points. John's longest yellowbelly Day 1 is 55cm therefore giving him 55 points. John's total score for Day 1 is 106 points. The process is repeated for Day 2.
Points accumulated each day will go towards that days prizes.
Points accumulated by a combination of both days of the event will go towards the overall points.
