WHERE TO GO
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:30:59 PM »
Hi Fellas, just after a little advice.
I am in SE Qld.  My wife gave me a new fly reel for Christmas. I am all rigged up and ready to go.

Got any suggestions?

What I would like is a quiet spot, meandering stream, gentle sloping bank, plenty room behind for the back cast, occasional cloud in the sky, not a lot of breeze.

Somebody put me on to a good spot.

Regards Gordon

i know a few good spots i want to try fly for mullet and bass but havent got a fly rod yet haha.

If you cant find a clear spot on the bank apparently maroon dam is a good one for fly fishing bass. Fishing locations open up more and more if your willing to wade in the rivers and creeks to allow casting room.

Hi Gordon,
Try below Moogerah Dam wall, nice picnic spot with grassy banks to the water, or you could try walking the banks of the dam, don't forget the brolly.

Cheers Andrew

What do mean a Brolly, I don't want to go where it's raining.

Might have to head west mate. According to the radar, you could be Ok at Glen Lyon, but the way the weather is up here it's anyone's guess. There's talk of it clearing a bit by the end of the week but the creeks will still be pretty grubby. Got a mate up a t Monduran at the moment and its wet bum time at the moment.

IF you decide to go below Moogerah wall, the closed area extends pretty much to the end of the picnic area, downstream of that is an area with fish in it, but access is fairly scary, a steep rock face that would be mighty slippery in this weather  :(

I'd say your options apart from rustwater would be limited till the rains stop. Every waterway in SEQ is running a banker, not ideal conditions for any type of angling.

Now thats something i have been wondering about! Fitz put a pots up stating the distances below and above the dam walls, now if you go on google earth and look at moogerah dam wall and measure the buffer zone of 400m from the wall it only reaches half way into the picnic area .... how does that work if the whole thing is a no fish zone ?

Please someone tell me whats whats with that its driing me nuts

Steve
