No public access to storage dams continues
Thursday, 20 January 2011 16:37
Toowoomba’s three storage dams remain off limits to the public, following an inspection by engineering experts today.

An inspection by dam safety engineers and an experienced geologist today revealed that road conditions at Cressbrook and Perseverance dams still present a serious safety risk.

Landslips on Perseverance Dam Road and Cressbrook Dam access road were assessed and permanent road closure implemented on a section of Perseverance Dam Road.

The closure will be implemented just east of the access road to the Perseverance Dam pump station and on the eastern side of the Perseverance Dam spillway, restricting access to all vehicles and pedestrians between these two locations.

It is expected the closure will be in effect for an extended period, until permanent repairs are undertaken. Access to Perseverance Dam or spillway by council officers for operational reasons will be on foot only.

Other than for essential staff, the three dams and recreation park areas remain closed to all public entry.

Road access to Cooby Dam beyond the locked gate on Pipeline Road is restricted to authorised council officers undertaking dam safety operations or restoration works.

Road access to Cressbrook Dam beyond the locked gate at Mount Jockey is restricted to authorised council officers only.

The use of water craft on Cressbrook, Perseverance and Cooby dams is restricted to authorised activities only until further notice due to the large volume of debris and navigation equipment that needs to be replaced or repositioned.

We missed the notice on Cressbrook Lake being closed. By the by, it is now open again if anyone is looking to visit.

Boating allowed at Cressbrook Dam

Boating enthusiasts can resume leisure activities at Cressbrook Dam.

Toowoomba Regional Council today (July 3) re-opened the dam to boating following last week's temporary ban.

The safety precaution was triggered when water flowed over the spillway following inflows from rain across the catchment.

The dam level has dropped sufficiently to allow boats to return to the dam for the final week of school holidays.

All recreational users also can visit Loveday Cove at Cooby Dam.

Cooby Dam wall picnic area remains closed due to damage suffered during the 2011 flooding.
