AS promised I took myself and a mate over to the Dumaresq this last week to chase a few Cod. Well we got just that; 3 Cod on the first day then it went to cr@p and could not raise a scale for the next 2 days although we did get one serious hit from a Yella that failed to hook up. There was just a big flash under the water and the rod went down hard, then nuthin'. I think the reason may have had something to do with atmospheric pressure. It was a bit cloudy the first couple of days then it went all clear and sunny with the Barometer at about 990hpascals. So that was that. Anyway the river is looking great and the water reasonably clear, with about 3 feet visibility. Not good enough to get the snorkeling gear out but good for Cod. I'll be back in early December.

Certainly me and my mates use low air pressure as an excuse for not catching natives all the time. (Well except when the air pressure is high, then its obviously another reason we dont catch fish

Yeh mate we have to come up with something, the last thing on our minds is that we just may be doing something wrong. Mind you on this occasion I may have been right. The difference from the preceding days was quite marked; went from cloudy to totally clear overnight. I'll keep working on it tho.
Cheers,
John

Since the flood out there I've noticed a significant increase in the number of golden perch being caught. Probably escapees from Glenlyon Dam, but some may have run up from further downstream. A nice little river that one... Bring on summer for the next visit!!

Sounds like a pretty substantial weather change there John. So you may well be right(as there is nothing that responds to weather changes as much as Aussie natives). I quite often find those super clear conditions(air not water) difficult to catch decent fish in.

Well that's all I could come up with Brett. One day maybe, but two days in a row? not really. How did you like the pics? Fitzy I was up there about a month before and we got 3 good yellas and a couple of Cod. You could be right about escapees, but they were reasonably slim for a Dam fish. The new snags in the river will be really good in a year or so as they weather a bit too.
