I was very surprised to see only 50 people attend the meeting in Kilcoy on Saturday morning.  No Kayaking group representatives were there.  No local (Esk, Fernvale Ipswich) businesses that I could see.  There were plenty of Landholders,  quite a few Bureaucrats, a smattering of Fishos, some Waterski and Jetski club representatives and some guy who wants an RV park near the Kilcoy showgrounds.  I found it a very positive experience, although I do have a bit of an issue with so much concern being given to the farmers who lease the waterfront land.  They keep mentioning Eco Tourism but shy away from answering how their activities could be described as environmentally friendly.

There were 5 members from the relevant fish stocking group present, 2 from KILCOY FC and 3 from BVA FC.

No marine Qld, no Canoeing Qld, no Sunfish (not that they should be sticking their nose into Sweetwater issues).... I wonder if they either don't care or they have a different level of input?

Didnt see any wind jockeys and only one high speed trolling boat owner (water skier)

There was a wind jockey on my table.  He wanted the trees cleared so he could sail up the top end and couldn't understand that the trees were the only thing keeping the skiers away from that area.  Some of the arguments were ridiculous.  The guy who said you shouldn't ski on Wivenhoe because it was too shallow?  Really people, if you want to go against something, at least have some facts to back up your argument otherwise, you're just another person with an opinion.

I forgot to mention that there were a couple of members from Grand Wivenhoe FC there. Was also pointed out to me that there was representation from the BV Sailing club among others.

I thought there were a few valid points made with the use of Lake Wivenhoe, mainly with the fact that the other two lakes are already primarily used by petrol recreational watercraft.
The guy who wanted speed cameras on helicopters to police speed limits was a bit out there also, but definitely the RV Park was the pick of them.

I did not attend any of the public consultation meetings for a number of reasons.
 I would have attended a meeting held in Brisbane and wonder how many others also would have attended.
All the locations were to far away and involve considerable expense for me to travel to them.
I did put my points of view on both the written response to the survey and also via telephone.
Not being a regular visitor to the sites I do not feel qualified to comment on quite a few of the questions in the survey.
I note that only around 250 surveys have been completed. Looks like Aussie apathy is alive and well. Wonder how many people will kick and scream if things do not go the way they want.
 I will make an effort to attend meetings held for the dams that i fish regularly.
 I note that Sampsonvale and Kurwongbah opens tomorrow.

I think those two dams will get more responses than the first three.  I'm sure the skiers would like access to Sampsonvale.  It would take some pressure off Somerset.

Hell yeah, good idea Basser. Can I go to the Samsonvale meetings and crow to all & sundry to get waterskiing on Lake Samsonvale? If it takes a few noise boats off Somerset it's a bonus for me....

You ever see Lake Mulwala?  Skiers and race bots love it.  Boxing Day and New Years Day are awesome race days.  It's an excellent example of a shared resource.

+1 for LakeLice, it will give more substance to allowing kayaks.

It is all the pine trees that grew to 30ft high in the drought. The borers and rot has got into them and they have all snapped off at water level. Hit one in your leccy and it justs lifts the boat and you can rock it off not so good hitting at speed.
Only safe area would be the old river bed or down near the dam wall.
Be interesting to see a jet ski hit a stump.

I don't see a problem with free or low cost camp for the grey nomads nearby, maybe they should look at something on the dam, in NSW dams you often have  no facilities option which of 75% cost of the full on rec area. Whist I'm not in the grey nomad category just yet, when driving from Sydney to  the barra trail I've always bypassed Wivenhoe and Somerset due to the extra cost of a boating permit and accommodation.
