Of Promises to Come....
« on: March 27, 2011, 10:54:25 PM »

Paid a return visit to a spot that I had investigated last year before South East Queensland was inundated with rain. With a SSE at 25+ knots blowing I decided to while away a Sunday afternoon on a quiet Sweetwater creek somewhere. No better excuse to pay a return visit to throw a line in and see what this new spot may hold.
A quick haul through the park and down through the scrub saw me arrive in anticipation of what I may find. The large pool I remembered was unchanged and no damage to the surrounding banks from the excessive runoff of the past few months. Left the main pool to fish on the return trip as it was near the launch site and headed upstream for a look. So many fishy looking spots had me casting left, right and centre. Things were quiet and I soon immersed myself in the surrounding song of the bush. I felt some half hearted swipes at my lure and repeat casts failed to drum up anymore attempts. These fish were very shy indeed. Numerous lure changes to find something that would  annoy them enough to get a solid hit fell on silent lips. Worked my way up to a small rock pool that would require further investigation another day.
Turned and headed back to work the main pool on the return trip which saw much of the same with fish suffering  from lockjaw. One Bass did hit with a little more gusto than the other’s had but failed to stay connected. Maybe I’m slipping from lack of practice!
Back for the arduous task of hauling the yak up thru the scrub and back to the car saw me making promises to return soon for what lies here waiting me.

Looks promising EG and definately worth another shot. Any chance the resident fish may have begun to move downstream?

Lack of practice, girl you fish more than most of us from what we read.

Your stories are great. Like poetry minus the rhymes.

That thought did cross my mind along with the possibility that someone may have fished it over the weekend before me as well.Got 2 more days left of my weekend to try and get back there.Just gotta drag myself away from all the yard work that I'm in the middle of.Concreter's arrive in the morning to begin 130m of concrete and my new 9m x 6m shed should be up in a few weeks. ;)
