What a day BR
« on: May 04, 2013, 06:55:49 AM »
Mate Glen, Rod and myself done the early morning trip up to the muddy river. Arrived to a cool but comfortable launch site, noticed that the farmer had been busy leveling out the track. I mentioned to the others dont be surprised if there is a new fence up there when we come back and there was, right down into the water. Had to scramble out of kayak in the mud to get out of water. With all the leveling half of it is clay and its a hard slog back up the hill with your kayaks getting heavier as it picks up the clay on the bottom of it.
Anyway other than that it was a great morning, bass caught me by surprise as they started fairly early and kept up a steady flow. Its the second best day I have had up there so far, 45 bass and 3 yellas and 4 of the bass over 50cm. Glen and Rod had a good morning also.

What was the river, and where is the fence into the water?

harpeng road. not certain if br stands for brisbane river or brr because someone who will remain nameless fell into the drink because you now have to use the slippery muddy bank to exit
cheers

Geeeze, what a bugger of a day you guys must of had. You probably didn't even have time for a coffee break with all those pesky bass interrupting your morning. Life's tough.
Inspiring report. Thanks for sharing.

Been away for the weekend.
As Ray said. In the time we were on the water the farmer had built a new fence to replace the left hand fence down to the water that had been damaged in the last flow. Launching is not a problem now but getting out of the water is.

Great day Dino, sounds like you had to hide behind a tree to change lures. If a fence is illegal what's to stop taxpayers who really own the land from just cutting it? Wouldn't be the first time.

Due to the undercut banks at the area left unfenced?

If the fence was in the correct location (ie along the edge of the road reserve) you could drive your car around the end of the back water and launch in the shallows and even back a tinnie in like you could for 50 years before the hobby farmers bought the land in next door & decided their cows had more rights than people.

Folks if you want the fence removed, take pictures and send complaint to the state member for Nanango Deb Frecklington. That is her area and she is aware of the issue. The more emails, letters and phone calls she gets the more likely she is to take a personal interest. Don't doubt that farmer brown has been telling all and sundry how evil fishing and kayaking is, her included.
