Boxing Day Bass
« on: December 27, 2012, 06:14:30 AM »
Mate Glen and me headed to the upper brissy river yesterday. We arrived and set up the yaks and as we hit the water down come the rain. It rained for a couple of hours and during this time Glen picked up 7 small to medium bass and I picked up 6 of the same. Then as the rain eased I paddled over a small school of baitfish and hooked a noce bass just a touch under 50cm. Paddling back over the school I got another in the mid 40cm range. I called Glen over but the school had moved, I noticed boney bream sliceing the surface about a 100ft away so I quickly paddled over this area and picked up another nice bass.
During the morning there were showings on the sounder of fish sitting on the bottom in several places but they were not interested in what was on offer. All fish caught were on cheap $5 frenzies.

I cant believe just how successful these lure are I use them for trolling, casting and jigging in dams, rivers and creeks. I have hundreds of expensive lures but tend to use what is doing well at the time.

Nice work on the bass Dino. I presume that you hit the Harpeng road stretch? I was there yesterday arvo for about 3 hours up until last light and couldn't raise a touch!  Also, there was very little showing on my sounder. All the bass must have been having a nanna nap in the arvo. There was a lot of surface activity from a lot of bait fish and some quite sizable mullet, but couldn't find any bass amongst them. You've certainly got the mojo!

Nice report Dino. Has anyone told you that you're a dead ringer for "that problem" farmer who lives nearby that spot?

There was a lot of empty space on my sounder also, the smaller size bass were picked up randomly and as I said the bigger ones come from under a school of  baitfish.

You would wonder how a problem farmer could be so handsome ha ha

By the way picked up 14 items of rubbish including a plastic bag which I used to take the rubbish away in. So come on fellas we need to lift our game a bit and do the right thing.

I don't think it is the people on here who are of concern, it is the hack weekend bait fishoes mainly that I have picked up rubbish from  :Hunting)
I picked up an empty placcy bag, pack of empty baito hooks, empty pack of prawns and a receipt from Sunnybank........................
They are also probably unaware of the issues surrounding this place..
