Rego lable removal of boats & trailers
« on: November 05, 2014, 08:04:55 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone knows if the new changes to registration stickers (being now able to remove them) apply to boats and boat trailers as well, I tried to ring Qld Department of Transport 13QGOV but like all red tape makers I hung up after 15 minutes of cr@p music and recordings of self praise, their pamphlet came in the mail with my boat & trailer rego but it only speaks about light vehicles and not vessels& trailers and I guess one can get better info from here than them (hehe),
Regards Bluey55.

I'm told it is definitely not for boats.  All police vehicles (not bikes) now have plate recognition in them.  They can read every plate of every vehicle they drive past and if it is unregistered an alarm starts that is pretty loud.  (Don't ask how I know this, it wasn't my fault the trailer wasn't registered!)  They won't have that technology for boats yet.

From 1 October 2014 you won’t get a registration label when you register your vehicle.

This only applies to some vehicles, including:
•cars
•motorcycles
•light trailers
•light caravans
•light buses
•motorised wheelchairs
•light commercial vehicles
•conditionally registered vehicles
•dealer/trader plates
•special purpose vehicles

Heavy vehicles (over 4.5t gross vehicle mass) and recreational boats will still need to display registration labels (excluding conditionally registered and special purpose vehicles).

Easiest way to make the decision is, if they send you a label, stick it on.
