Not doing the right thing when fishing?  You are running the risk of being caught and facing hefty fines.

Fisheries Officers are on patrol across the state throughout the year.

On the weekend of 24th and 25th October Inland Fisheries Officers, in conjunction with Tasmania Police, performed compliance operations at Arthurs Lake and Lake Meadowbank.  Several offences were detected and this resulted in fines totalling $1540.00 being issued for:

• Possessing a gill net at inland waters
• Fishing with unattended set rods
• Fishing with more rods than allowed
• Fishing without an angling licence
• Failing to wear PFD
• Failing to carry minimum boat safety equipment

Illegal activities have the potential to detract from the quality (and sustainability) of the angling experience enjoyed by those who do the right thing and your safety.

Anyone who suspects or witnesses unlawful activity is urged to quickly contact Stephen Hepworth Manager (Compliance and Operations) at the Inland Fisheries Service on 0438 338 530.   Vital information to give the Stephen includes car/boat registrations, exact locations and offender descriptions.
