Why would you want to?.
The sole purpose of a closed season is to protect them in the breeding season any disturbance is likely to cause them to leave the nest
Leave them alone .
 Cheers

Look up the definition of "take" on their website.  It will include target, attempt to catch etc.  leave them alone to breed in NSW

The closed season is only three months long. Its a good excuse to go and hit your local dam for Yellowbelly instead.

Cheers,
Dave.

Fisheries are keeping a close eye on all NSW streams due to people not being able to wait until 1st December. They WILL prosecute you if you are seen to be "taking" Cod. The reason for this is that the female Cod will re-absorb the eggs instead of laying them if hooked. The male guards the eggs for quite a while after they are laid and fertilised and if he gets hooked he won't return to the nest, and the eggs get eaten by anything that comes by. This is why there's a closed season.

it is illegal to fish for them during the closed season

Quote
26 Aug 2013
Department of Primary Industries Fisheries Compliance Director, Glenn Tritton, has reminded fishers that the seasons for Murray cod and Murray crayfish both close on September 1.

“Murray cod and Murray crayfish are a prized catch of freshwater fishers and are native to the Murray Darling Basin,” Mr Tritton said.

“The Murray cod fishery is subject to closed periods every year to protect this native species during its breeding season and the Murray crayfish fishery is closed to each year to protect it during its dormant period.

“The Murray cod in particular is one of Australia’s largest freshwater fish growing up to 1.8 metres and weighing up to 50 kilograms.

“It is illegal to fish for this iconic species again until December 1.

Maybe it helps to search for "Murray" cod and not "Murry" cod too.

I hate it when people drop the "a" from my name...it's never spelt that way! :)

IT may be timely at this point to remember that set lines are still being used on the Border streams. I have spoken to some NSW Fisheries people who have been actively doing research on MURRAY Cod over the last few years and they tell me that we should cut the set lines off and report the location to Fisheries. You have nothing to fear by keeping these lines in your boat/kayak for later disposal. Obviously you should check any fish caught on these "droppers" for tags.
