Lake Kurwongbah recreation notice
« on: May 08, 2015, 11:19:41 PM »
Lake Kurwongbah re-opens to paddlecraft and rowing from 6am, Friday 8 May 2015
Date: 07/05/2015 - Seqwater

Lake Kurwongbah will re-open to secondary contact recreation activities (paddlecraft and rowing) from 6am, Friday 8 May 2015.

Lake Kurwongbah will remain closed to water-skiing until water quality testing indicates that it is appropriate to re-open to primary contact activities. This temporary closure to water skiing is made in the interests of public health.

Please play it safe and regularly check our website and social media for the latest updates, and we will advise as conditions change.

Lake Kurwongbah re-opens to all permitted water-based recreation activities from 6am, Tuesday 12 May 2015
 Date: 11/05/2015

Lake Kurwongbah will re-open to all permitted water-based recreation activities from Tuesday 12 May 2015.

The lake was temporarily closed to all water-based activities due to water quality issues related to the significant in-flows associated with the severe rain event on Friday 1 May. Lake Kurwongbah was re-opened to rowing and paddling late last week. Seqwater has since received water quality test results indicating that it is appropriate to re-open the lake to water-skiing.

Please note that the arrangements in place for on-water recreation at Lake Kurwongbah remain effective:
• Fridays to Mondays (inclusive) – paddlecraft access to the lake via launch point at Mick Hanfling Park
• Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - water-skiing for members of Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone via launch point at Ski Road
• Seven days per week – rowing access to the lake for members and guests of Pine Rivers Rowing Club, with access via the club premises

Remember to play it safe when visiting any of our dams, lakes and parks – conditions may have changed since your last visit – our rangers can’t be everywhere to help you.

No unfortunately.
They are paranoid that the electric motors will cause all sorts of issues with the cabomba weed, which somehow or other is not an issue with ski boats motors.........

All has to do with electric motors being so quiet and the weed doesn't have time to evade them, however the low decible rumble from a supercharged V8 allows plenty of time for the weed to get out of the way.....apparently  :o

We would like to let you know the shared recreation arrangement for Lake Kurwongbah will change at the end of June.

Paddlers will continue to share the lake with club and elite skiers in an arrangement which will enable each recreation activity to be enjoyed on different days, including a weekend day for each activity.

As of Tuesday 30 June 2015:

-          Lake Kurwongbah will be open to the general public for paddling from Sunday to Wednesday inclusive.

-          Waterski Queensland and the Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone club will have use of the lake from Thursday to Saturday inclusive. Paddling is not permitted on these days.

-          The current arrangement for the existing rowing club will not be impacted.

-          Fishing will remain permitted from the shoreline of designated recreation areas 7 days a week, and from paddle craft from Sunday to Wednesday inclusive.

This interim arrangement will remain in place until the water quality assessment of neighbouring Lake Samsonvale is completed. The quantitative assessment will provide the most comprehensive understanding to date of the impacts of different activities on water quality and the North Pine Water Treatment Plant, which treats the raw lake water for drinking.  Recreation at both Lake Samsonvale and Lake Kurwongbah will be reviewed following the completion of the assessment.

Don’t forget to Play it Safe when recreating on Lake Kurwongbah. Visit our website for further information.

Regards,

Seqwater
