Its hard not having a blank or rod to hold to get a feel for it but something like that may be an idea .. might be able to get samurai blanks but i dont particularly like them they arent that crash hot.

Bugger, I was going to suggest the S0011. 4'8". Struggles on really big Bass but fine for anything up to 40cm IMO.

Hey mate,
Have a look on the St Croix website, they might have what you want in a short spin rod. You can get their stuff for around $100 at the lower end but I'm told that they are really nice rods.
Cheers,

St.Croix Supreme is the go you can get then down to around 4ft 6 in. You can order them direct from St.Croix in the states or go through a place like Bass Pro Shops. Just look out for the freight cost tho can be around $40.

That sounds great but there is a hidden danger when ordering rod blanks online in the form of not knowing how the rod feels or the action. it is something you have to hold and feel but at the moment the chances of that happening arent looking great.

Thinking that a St.croix may be my only real option .. bit iffy about getting a blank imported without holding it first but may have to bite the bullet and just get one .. they arent extremely expensive ive seen allot worse.

Has anyone used a St.croix rod ?  Dale ???

I've not used a St. Croix, however being an American blank the line rating will be way out compared to an Australian rod.  Their 16lb and our 8kg are miles apart.

Yes i was warned about that .. what if i got a 2-6 blank how do you think it would rate ? under or over ? nearly all brands of blanks arent spot on the money but when you feel the rod you get a pretty good idea. it wouldnt really matter a hell of allot just as long as it can flick a lure and pull in at least 40cm bass ill be happy.

The 4'6" blanks that takrat suggested are what im looking at and are only 60 u.s $ but could get them in south aus yet will have to ring after work to find out.

Who knows what a 2-6 would be like.  A G Loomis SJR6400 GL2 is 5'4", is rated 2-6, and has a lure weight of 1/64 to 1/8oz.  That won't do what you want to do.  Personally, I wouldn't buy a rod without handling it.

It is a very raw subject and most probly have done the wrong thing but have orderd 2 St. Croix blanks from MO tackle . I no it is borderline stupidity buying a blank without holding it but i really cant see any other option , noone in qld has these blanks in store let alone any blank not to stress how short i need them aswell. Left with not much of a choice i orderd a 4'6" and 5' St. Croix blanks, MO will get back to me monday and let me know if they are available in the u.s and how long they will take to get here.

The 4'6" blank is $60 u.s the 5' is $65 , that combined plus frieght will be a resonably amount but all the gear i need to build the blanks i already have.

Oh well im sure i will find a use for them if not for the next generation .

Please feel free to tell me how stupid i am  :youbeauty

Have decided that my 7ft rod is just a bit too long for my yakking needs and i have been searching around for a new shorter one but just cant seem to get a good bearing .

Can anyone make any suggestions for a mid hundred dollar graphite spin rod in or around the 5 to 5.5 foot mark?
Funding for a new rod isnt exactly in abundance so it cant be too excy. Will be primarily used for bass fishing in and around trees.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated

Steve

Mate your lucky day , my missus decided  my favourite little flick stick was too long and shortened it by 6" on Australia day ! must be close to thirty years old , she's been watching the Ugly stik ad , to make matters worse I just took some great green fish on this small rod last week and was extolling the virtues of the great little stick and the hundreds of fish it has brought to the bank , it now measures about 5'6" and going cheap , I am in your boat I need a new rod !( its not for sale but going on my wall in the garage to remind me all rods should be carried in rod tubes when my missus is about !
Regards
Ken

Steve,
I doubt that anayone's going to call you stupid for having a go. Sometimes if you want something bad enough you have to improvise and that means you can't always try before you buy. Just one question; why did you get it from Motackle and not direct from the US? It would have been cheaper by a mile even with the freight cost. Anyway I hope it works out for you. I think I feel another post coming on.
Cheers mate,
John

Yes mate sometimes you just have to give it a go, I only used Mo tackle because i thought they would have one in stock ... silly me... so they just orderd one . then i find a custom rod builder in south aus has the same blanks for $65 and Mo havent gotten back to me yet with a qoute so i may give that guy a call and see if he can send me the blanks i want . .. just not real sure how to organise frieght and what not either way.  :-\

Yes might put a post up after i have built one of them .
