The Inevitable, Monduran Downstream

Well we saw it downstream of Lake Awoonga with the Barra going over the wall with some falling to a watery grave in the Boyne R.

It was inevitable it was also going to happen the Barra from Lake Monduran falling victim too in the Kolan R.

Here are a few images of the other side of the dam wall looking downstream of the Kolan R.

With enough said, I just thought I'd share the pictures of what is the end for some of these iconic fish as tradgic as it is, this is nature.

A sad sight to be sure, but as you say an event of nature. It may even improve the fishery somewhaqt once all this weather settles down.

I'm sure I know what you mean by saying ' this is nature', and yes, floods are nature, but the deaths are based on 'man'. I'm not sure of too many river systems where it's natural for fish like barra to dive bomb into concrete, rocks and such from big heights, thus causing them to die. On a greater note, the SE holds my wish for safer coming days.

Yeah mate I didn't word it too well did I. A dam wall isn't too natural in a river system put there by man that's for sure, however floods are.

The life of impoundment Barra and other land locked fish due to man's creations do it tough when lakes reach full capacity and go AWOL.

We're do'in OK here just local flooding cutting us off from local towns during massive down pours, nothing compared to what other parts of the state are going through. I'm feeling pretty helpless watching it all unfold on the TV. Our prayers and thoughts go to those who are most effected.

Yeah mate!

EMD has been spilling for a while now. We are very anxious to get fish in there but at this stage it could be while with our resourse for the fingerling being cut off from flood water, then they have to harvest them which who knows how long it will be before they can get to the ponds.

The flood waters from EMD flowed into the Mooloolah R. to a point yesterday cutting us off to town along the Steve Erwin Way. For those who know the Mooloolah R. it has been flowing over the weir at Parrearar into the cannals.


I don't recall seeing the lake at the height it reached yesterday.
