Sunshine Coast Bass session
« on: September 02, 2011, 08:28:26 PM »
Had a quick after work session to ring in the opening of the bass season at a spot that has suffered from our excess rain over the last few seasons. I had a strong feeling that bass would be in there but just never got around to fishing there because of the poor water clarity (not necessarily quality). Had about an hour and a half before dark so headed down with some lures keen to try out a blade through the weed beds. Ended up landing 3 fish and dropping two others two of the bigger fish were estimated at 27 cm and the smaller around 20 cm. Looking at the photos one could have been bigger but I never bother measuring fish preferring to photograph then release quickly. Heading to a different spot tomorrow but imagine there will be a few other punters doing the same so last night's sess could have been a blessing.     PAT

Well done Pat! Great to see you getting onto a few. Heading into new grounds myself tomorrow.

Good luck!

Good way to open your account for the season Pat. Any fish that puts a bend in the rod is a good one I say. Going out this arvo to a mates place to see if his creek is firing.
Cheers,
JD

Cheers guys going to give it a try on the flyrod late this arvo but got to be careful not to arose the locals that there is fish in there !!! Don't want the families of baitfishers ruining it. Had a quick fish down in North Pine river yesterday as I headed down to sell a flyrod to another forumite. Using the same blade as above I caught a stonker Tilapia on the second cast went 42 cm 1.5 kg and later caught an average size bass didn't measure it as tried to let it go quickly - probably 30-35 cm. I didn't have anything to bury the tilapia so took it home to bury (risky I know) and the damn thing was still alive after 3 hours out of the water. So stupidly put it in water then my fish tank but after protest from other forum users he got the knife this morning and is now fertiliser for a future tree - tough bastards they are. Pat
