G'day all
With all this rain about ive had allot of time on my hands like most of you and what better way to spend it attempting to solve a problem i ran into after buying a humminbird depth/fish finder for my Scrambler 11.
Nativeman has put up some great posts and has been very helpfull in giving me a distant hand getting me going but my dilema was how to mount the sounder and still have my cannon rod holder still mounted up the front. After a couple of afternoons sitting staring at it i hatched a plan to make a mount off to the side of the main base for a rod holder/accesory base, turns out i had some 6mm hard acrylic lying around (not very flexible) and decided to use it and some 6mm aluminium over stainless as its easier to work with. Stainless steel bolts where all that i used with nylock nuts.
The following photo's is what i came up with now i havent tried it but would like to hear your thoughts, instead of forking out for a ram arm mount for the sounder i just raised a plate out from the accessory base and it clears my feet the only thing im not sure about yet is how far out the rod holder is.
Please be honest no matter how harsh.
Cheers
Steve

Should work, very nice job.
Why not just attach the rod mount to the side of the yak?

Believe my i thought of that but i wasnt too sure about drilling holes in it plus this way just lets me use the brass tapped fittings that come on the kayak. Certain parts of the kayak flex a bit and what ive made does flex a little but only a little not due to the rigidity of what i made but the give in the plastic of the kayak. Still pretty rigid.
Thanks guys

Very neat looking job there Steve.
You'd be able to turn the actual rod holder itself around so it faces forward if it was in the way.
But the main arm where it sits on the gunwal of the yak looks good to me.
Cheers.

Cheers Toni
Also thought it would be a pretty good angle for a camera be it still or video.
