Lake Mulwala Cod Classic - 2010
« on: November 28, 2010, 06:08:12 PM »
Australia’s richest freshwater fishing tournament and the most eagerly anticipated fishing social event of the year, the “2010 Yamaha Cod Classic” and “Wilson Slick Back Lure’s Junior Cod Classic” is drawing near. December 4th and 5th will see Lake Mulwala come alive with an expected 3000 plus anglers and 1400 boats. Entering its 11th year, the Cod Classic continues to offer an amazing prize pool totaling in excess of $125000 including 7 boating packages. Incredibly, 55 boating packages will have been given away through the Cod Classic after this year. You would be crazy to miss this great weekend in Yarrawonga / Mulwala and the chance to “catch a legend” on the twin towns’ famous Cod fishing lake.

The extremely successful “Fishing & Outdoors” expo will again be a main feature with the chance to grab a bargain not to be missed. Other popular parts of the competition to remain will be Flathead Fred for the juniors; “Cod Talk” with Rod “Codmac” McKenzie and Gus Storer, David “The Barefoot Fisherman” Hodge’s casting clinics and the Mulwala Water Ski Club Pro and Amateur Casting Championships.

As leaders at the forefront of fishing events, the Cod Classic will continue to offer all competitors the chance to learn from some of the country’s leading authorities on native fish in regards catch and release and its values through our catch and release clinics. Along with this, a “levy per head” has been implemented by the Cod Classic committee to put money directly back into certain locally based fishing projects. Another new venture for the Cod Classic is to welcome aboard our official charity, “The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia”. Hopefully through awareness and education of this disease (that kills as many men annually in Australia as we have competitors) we can help save lives. We are proud to announce that we have received a 5 star accreditation rating from NEATFish Australia (National Environmental Assessment of Tournament Fishing) for our event that puts us on a par with other leaders in this field nation wide.

The Cod Classic is a total catch & release event for all native species. Designed to cater for all levels of fishing skill using either bait or lures, everybody has the same chance of winning one of the many great prizes on offer. The majority of prizes are randomly drawn with you not having to catch a fish to be a winner. Those that are lucky enough to register either a legal size Murray Cod or Golden Perch go into additional draws to win extra great prizes.
With many great sponsors and more coming on board daily, there will be over 1500 prizes (adults) and all juniors will receive several prizes. Boating packages, sounders, canoes, kayaks, fishing trips, holidays, fishing gear, camping equipment and clothing just to name some of the gear lucky anglers will go home with.

Entry for the competition will be Adults $80 and juniors $30. This includes four meals, souvenir stubby holder, a free ticket in major boat raffle, Wilson Slickback lure & Bassman Spinnerbait (for the kids), entry into 1000’s of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend.

The Mulwala Football Netball Club fishing events calendar continues into the New Year with three other events on the cards. They include the Lowrance Da$h 4 Ca$h 19th & 201st Feb, the His & Hers Partners Classic, March 5th and the all new and exciting Cod Nationals April 25th – 30th.
See you there!
