McIntyre River
« on: March 19, 2012, 05:53:08 PM »
G'Day crew, I am getting desperate for a Freshwater fishing fix and need to get away from Footrot Flats. I've heard the McIntyre River near Goondi is pretty good with 16km of water. It looks to have settled down after the floods too. Anyone fished it lately?
THanks in advance,
JD

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

I've not been there recently JD, but I've had a couple of reports of some big cod around Bogabilla & a couple of good fish around the MacIntyre Junction. If there's water, there's got to be fish there to be caught.

Cheers,

fitz..

Stop in on McIntyre Brook at Inglewood , I wished I had fished there last week on my travels . On one of the kayak forums there was a report of some very nice cod coming out of there.

Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks men, You're right Fitzy, about the water and the fish. MY main concern was that it might suffer from over fishing. Dave, can you launch a 4m tinny at Inglewood or is it yak country only?
Cheers
John

You can launch at Whestone Reserve, not concrete but I've launched my tinnie with my old falcon, a 4x4 or ute is probably preferable. Can find it about 12 - 15km west of Inglewood, look for the small sign next to the highway. I posted some pics here from out that way when I was there with the lad in January.

Cheers,

fitz..

Hey Buddy
The Mac is on fire, multiple captures of cod and yells. No matter ya poison either lures or bait. I use bassman codmans and have been having a ball with the cod. The ramp here in town is fantastic, but if ya need tackle get in early saturday as they shut here by lunch and closed sundays.
Mate the best way I have found is late arvo slow roll the codmans hard up in the snags and hang on, they are really hitting hard... we sangged 8 in 40 minutes in a 200 metre section just to show how well it is fishing......

John, Nath's in the know now living a stones throw from the river. Mate, we fished further upstream and had a blast over the weekend just past too, 5 Cod and a Yella for 3hrs work.

Hope this rain doesn't mess the clarity up for ya too much if they get a bit upstream.

Thanks Dave,
That all sounds like the ducks nuts, I don't know if I can get there this coming week but I'll see about the one after. I normally fish a spot on the Dumaresq about 90km west of Tenterfield and have pulled some good fish there, but it's a lot shallower and the sections are shorter. That section between the weirs on the Mac is about 16km. Looks great.
By the way Nat, was that your write up in Bush'n Beach? That got my interest initially.
Cheers,
John
