What i am interested in is the number and species of fingerlings plus the number of fish stocked per hectare stocked each year for the last couple of individual years.

They probably do, in some obscure report.
My mob are the same, absolutely everything we do is reported, must be on hand for the estimate committee hearings (which are about due) in case the lords and masters get asked a question!

Don't know Ray, it's a good point. I think it's staffing (or lack there of) to put thetime into dumping it all into a data base.

Cheers,

Fitz..

It makes it hard to really research your chances of catching a paticular species when someone tells you that they are stocked there but you dont know often or when.
For example MRC are a  reasonably frequent catch in Somerset but I do not hear of too many being caught in Wivenhoe. Is this due to different stocking rates or some other reason?

Considerations are made considering available suitable habitat, return on investment, availability of stock (and then supply), direction to take the fishery. Wivenhoe & Somerset may be sister lakes location wise, however they are different fisheries & the management strategies are different for both.

To give some idea of cost for a recommended stocking rates for cod into Wivenhoe, to stock MRCs at 50 fish / hectare / annum would take over 500 000 fish at $1.65 each which would take in excess $800 000 per year to achieve. There isn't that sort of money kicking around for cod let alone stocking the main target species that all of the local fishing clubs (which have reps on S&WFA) want stocked.
Both Wivenhoe & Somerset are hamstrung on SIP allocations due to the 4000 hectare cap on surface area. To be honest, the available dollars are of higher importance elsewhere.

Ray you seem very keen to get involved in the management of Somerset & Wivenhoe, if you would like to have an input into species composition & fishery direction, there's always a spare seat at S&WFSA meetings. Costs nothing, would enjoy seeing you there.  :thanks

Cheers,

fitz..

Cod numbers are pretty academic at the moment, fingerlings are like rocking horse do do.

Desperate to get our hands on some for the Caboolture river!
