Fishing
and Camping from The Border Rivers (Goondiwindi - Talwood).
Qld
Camping
and Fishing Around Goondiwindi including Talwood & Bungunya.
The
waterways in and around Goondiwindi boast some great
sweetwater fishing opportunities. Murray Cod and Golden
Perch (Yellowbelly) are caught in the town reaches
of the Macintyre River. Local fishing clubs are continually
re-stocking the river to ensure plenty of fish for
locals and visitors alike.
Rivers,
streams and creeks in the Waggamba Shire are also places
to catch a feed of fish, in particular the reserves to the
east. If you prefer fishing from a boat, the town boat ramp
can handle any size and gives access to the huge expanse
of water between the two weirs. Further west and south the
Weir and Barwon Rivers offer the chance of getting back
to nature with bush camping and a chance to get away from
the crowds.
NOTE
- A NSW Fishing Licence is required to fish any NSW waters,
even if fishing from a boat or from the Qld shore line.
The
Dumaresq, Macintyre and Barwon Rivers form the border of
Qld and NSW. The actual border is located halfway across
the waterway, wherever the water level may happen to be,
other than when the river breaks its banks or is dry, at
which time the border reverts to the centreline between
the normal high banks of the river.
This
area can be very confusing and it is 'recommended' that
fishers obtain a NSW Fishing Licence to ensure they are
covered in case they mistake their location.
